Catty was born as Atertra Adamantis, her mother Zoe finding the name Atertra, which meant “unlucky”, to be an appropriate name for her cursed daughter. Zoe was a fallen goddess, once a Daughter of the Moon before she chose to join up with the Atrox instead. Her father, Adamantis, was as close to a demon as one could get, having long ago secured his immortality and place in the Inner Circle of his evil shadow lord. A child born to a demon and fallen goddess would become the Heir of the Secret Scroll, a document meant to either be the destruction of the Atrox once and for all... Or the destruction of the only hope left in the world: the Daughters of the Moon.

Whatever Catty's early life was like is lost to her. At the age of six, something changed in Zoe Reese, and she left Adamantis, taking her young child with her. While trying to escape, the car her mother had stolen crashed in the desert, and that is the first thing that Catty remembers. A bright light and a crash. Wandering the desert alone, Zoe having left her daughter in the hopes that she could make a life by herself. A car finally pulled over, containing one Kendra Turner, who immediately took a liking to the young girl, especially after the child used her special goddess-blessed ability. Kendra realized that this child was special, an alien who had lost her way. She named the girl Catty.

In reality, the memory loss was attributed to a man her mother knew, and whom Catty would end up becoming familiar with. He had taken her memories, upon Zoe's request, to keep her safe for a few years.

Catty grew up happy. She always knew that she was different, and with her mom Kendra telling her that she was an alien princess, and the fact that she could time travel, Catty knew this was true. Unfortunately, not many children came to like the spunky girl with the funny name. Not until she met Vanessa Cleveland at the age of seven did she finally feel complete. Vanessa was the exact opposite of Catty, but there was one thing that drew the one to the other. They both wore the same necklaces: a small silvery amulet with a moon etched into it. Vanessa was the first person Catty actually took a trip with, despite the terror her best friend experienced. These would be common occurrences in the future, a basis of their friendship. On Vanessa's eighth birthday, she decided that it was time to show Catty her own ability. She took Catty's hand while they waited outside for birthday cake and made her hand invisible. Catty freaked out horribly, which caused Vanessa to freak out and not be able to bring back her hand. The incident actually affected Vanessa more than Catty, as Catty saw it as an opportunity to hone her own power even more.

Catty spent these next few years being a total troll and making no friends. She also spent it believing that she was an alien, thanks to Kendra's overactive imagination.

At 15, she learned things a little differently. Something weird was beginning to go on. Another girl arrived at school, wearing the same charm as her and Vanessa. Catty didn't think too much of it at the time. What was bothering Vanessa was that she felt like she was being stalked, and by default, seeing that Vanessa was her only friend, it bothered Catty. She suggested they take a trip back in time to the night that Vanessa was followed, but Vanessa refused. She forced Catty to promise that she wouldn't, seeing as how it hadn't been her playing tricks on her, and Catty reluctantly agreed. That didn't stop Catty from spending a day jumping back and forth in time to make her powerful, however. And without telling Vanessa, she hopped back to another night that soon followed after the stalking incident.

That jump in time proved to be a failing for Catty. She was unaware of the truth that was going on, that there were dark forces out there ready to harm her. Catty was kidnapped by these forces, called Followers, while she was spying on Vanessa and gathering clues. Her moon amulet was left behind, the only clue to Vanessa that something was wrong. Catty was gone for several weeks, having believed to be a runaway. In the end, however, Vanessa came to save Catty, at peril to her own life. The both of them were then saved by two other girls, and they were able to escape the situation with their lives and their hope.

This was when Catty learned that she was not an alien, but instead a goddess, a Daughter of the Moon. She was a by product of the goddess Selene and her human lover Endymion. She had been sent to earth to bring hope to the world before the Atrox consumed it all. Catty was extremely excited by this revelation, to say the least.

The next few months were insane. Serena turning evil, Jimena's death and immediate resurrection, the opening of Tartarus in the middle of Los Angeles. And of course, Catty's first boyfriend.

Not long after finding out that she was a goddess, Catty was summoned downtown to identify the body of her biological mother, Zoe Reese. Catty didn't know anything about this woman, and neither did Kendra, and upon looking at her last few belongings, Catty saw that she had written down her name and address on the back of an Algebra test that she had aced. A test that was dated until the next week. Kendra, seeing the date, hid the paper so that nobody would notice. Also inside of the envelope had been an amulet similar to her own, but scorched. They didn't have time to linger. A couple of suits walked through the doors, and immediately Catty felt a charge of energy in the air. Something was wrong. Kendra said that they were from the government. She recognized them from years back, when she had found Catty roaming the desert in Yuma. They escaped, but Catty knew she had to go back. She urged Vanessa to travel with her, so they could turn invisible and get the rest of her mother's things. Vanessa finally agreed, but they were almost caught. When separated from Vanessa, Catty was confronted by a mysterious man, who passed along a manuscript to her, telling her that she was the only one who could touch it. Who could use it.

It turned out that the manuscript was the Secret Scroll, and in its hidden steps was the way to destroy the Atrox for good. Unfortunately, it was written in an old Latin dialect, and it was hard for Catty to read other than that there was a curse that killed whoever touched it. Despite the warning, Kendra took it upon herself to begin translating it, which led to complications. Kendra was getting sick, dying. And she believed that Catty was a demon, some evil being sent to destroy the world. After finally calming her down, Catty told her mom the truth about being a goddess, and Kendra eagerly set forth to finish translating, despite her health. At the same time, a powerful Follower named Stanton, whom all the Daughters were well acquainted with, demanded that the scroll be handed over to him. It was his, as his father had acquired it back in the 1200s. Catty refused, and while they were being chased, Stanton took her to the past, to the day when Kendra found her at the age of six, to meet Zoe. This is where Zoe ended up receiving the test.

Years later, in the present, Catty went to visit her mother, and learned the truth about her mother falling from the goddess and about her real father. She was with Zoe until the end, when Selene took Zoe back.

Meanwhile, Catty's relationship with her boyfriend, Chris, was already beginning to feel rocky. He was cute, smart, sweet, artistic like herself, but he was beginning to withdraw. She felt that he was cheating on her, despite how many times he protested it. It was making her feel strange, and she was unsure of what to do. Eventually, Catty discovered that it had been Chris who had given her the Secret Scroll, as he was the Keeper. He was never supposed to get close to her, but he couldn't help himself, finding her too beautiful to stay away from. After a fight with a Regulator, a twisted version of a Follower so succumbed to evil that there own bodies grew hideous in the process, Catty lost the Scroll in her time tunnel, knowing that Vanessa's life was much more important to her than any piece of paper. Since it had been Chris's job for thousands of years to watch over the manuscript, he had to leave Catty in order to find it. She understood, even though it broke her heart. He left with the parting words that one day they would be together forever.

She never did get over him completely.

After losing the scroll, things seemed to grow worse. In an attempt to free Stanton from his binds of immortality for Serena's sake, the Daughters of the Moon believed they had killed him instead, as his body went through their purification process. Fortunately enough, he had not really died, since he was immortal. By this point, the number of people Catty had seen die was up to four. This was not the end, as Stanton had brought a deadlier threat down on the Daughters of the Moon by the name of Lambert Malmaris, an extremely powerful member of the Inner Circle who was obsessed with the boy. In order to hurt Stanton, Lambert attempted to kill Serena. This backfired, as Stanton went willingly back to the Atrox, becoming the Prince of Night, and ultimately led to a showdown between Lambert and the Daughters. As Lambert hurled lightning around, attempting to zap Vanessa, Catty pushed her out of the way, taking the full force of the strike. Her body disappeared, leaving only a burnt mark on the grass behind.

Catty was mourned by the Daughters as dead, and the community believed she had run away. Again. The truth of the matter was that Catty was actually trapped in another dimension, and she ended up being rescued by a young girl who was new to Los Angeles who had the power of telekinesis. The girl, Tianna, became an honorary Daughter of the Moon for saving Catty's life, and Catty gained a new best friend, to the chagrin of Vanessa, who grew deeply jealous of this.

During these few months (where supposedly she must have become sixteen), Catty faced a demon in the attempt to warn Vanessa, faced a spirit possessing spirit and witnessed the split of Followers from the Atrox, and had to deal with death. Again. Tianna had taken the Secret Scroll, believing she could summon the Atrox and destroy it, as she was under the mind control effects of a wizard. It took all of Catty's energy to time travel, leaving Jimena in the past to save them all. In the end, all was fixed and Jimena left the Daughters forever, having turned seventeen and made her choice to forget everything.

The Secret Scroll was found again, but Chris was not around, something that hurt Catty greatly. The manuscript was going to be put on display at a museum, something couldn't allow to happen, because of the curse. In her first attempt to steal it, she hid out in the office of the woman who owned it. Unfortunately, another person had always been given the idea of taking the scroll, a boy Catty only knew of. Kyle. An instant attraction grew between the two, resulting in many confused feelings and hot make outs over the course of a few weeks. The attempt failing, Catty and the other goddesses had to break into the museum to steal the manuscript.

They failed.

The Scroll was lost.

Or so Catty thought. Kyle seemed to be a new attachment in her life, and despite Jimena's odd warnings that Catty should stay away from him, she allowed Kyle in, and he gave her the scroll. He also persuaded her to allow him to take her to her father in Nefandus. It was a trap, and she immediately distrusted Kyle, despite the fact that he had saved her life after her father tricked her into believing that he loved her. This wasn't the end of it. Her father got into contact with her. If she ever wanted to free Chris, she would have to return to Nefandus with the Scroll and hand it over. The Daughters, having been following Catty, also decided to take the trip into the forbidden land of evil. Catty was reunited with Chris, who confessed that he loved her, but she was too stricken and confused to say anything in return. In the end, Catty made the ultimate sacrifice as the Heir, taking the right steps in fulfilling the prophecy she had been born into. She destroyed the scroll instead of handing it over, even though she had known it would kill Chris. He begged her to end his life, to become what she was meant to, and through her tears, she had. She was now the embodiment of the cursed manuscript.

Not long after, her relationship with Kyle failed. She broke up with him, unable to handle it. Then Tianna was kidnapped, to become the Bride of the Atrox. The Daughters went to Nefandus to save her, but she made the choice to end her life. Vanessa and Serena were captured. Catty chose to join her father. It was the only way to become what she was meant, the savior. Time passed. Catty warned Kyle to stay away from her, as their destinies were interwoven with each other, but he didn't listen, and eventually Catty met with him and his friends, as they were key figures in ending the Atrox. She told them that she had discovered the Black Diamond, a jewel supposedly meant to destroy the Atrox once and for all. They were caught, and in silence, the four boys knew what had to be done in order to help Catty. She said that she had captured the Legend of Four, and when challenged for her loyalty, she ordered their deaths, earning herself a place in the Inner Circle alongside her father, who was planning on using his daughter to destroy the Atrox and take its place. She gained immortality through this act.

Catty had to pretend to be Atertra, an evil bitch who enjoyed pain and death. It confused Vanessa, and it took some time to convince her best friend that she was still herself. Still good, despite everything. The end was approaching, and they all knew it. In the end, Catty faced the Atrox alone, not allowing Vanessa to know that she was going to sacrifice her life, even though it hurt tremendously in lying to her again. In not saying goodbye. Catty invoked the name of the creator of the universe without fear, standing in the middle of the Atrox's evil until both the shadow and herself disappeared. And that was the end of Catty Turner.

Setting:
The world of the Daughters of the Moon is essentially our world, but with a bunch of supernatural/mythological stuff going on at the same time. The story goes that back in the day when Pandora’s box was open, all the evils were released into the world – and hope. The evil entity known as the Atrox had send a demon to consume hope when it came out of the box, and the (titan) goddess Selene was the only one who saw this asshole. So she gave with world her daughters, to stand for hope and to protect it so the rest of humanity wouldn’t be consumed by despair.

The daughters are ‘mortal goddesses’ which makes about as much sense as it sounds. Theoretically they are daughters of Selene, but born to mortal parents. They’re all born with a particular power like foresight or mind reading, receive zero explanation about why they have it, and find out about their true heritage when they’re around 14/15. With this revelation comes the knowledge that when they’re 17, they will have to choose; either to move on from their mortal lives and become a guardian, or to forget everything about their lives as a goddess and become mortal.

Their job is to defend humanity against the Atrox and its Followers. The Atrox is an evil entity, the origin of which is never really clear, but it’s the thing that tempted Lucifer to fall. So you know it’s hard core. Followers are people who have lost their hope and been brought over to the dark side so to speak. They often gain powers because of this, depending on how impressed the Atrox is with them – mind reading, travelling through shadows etc. The Followers who do things that are truly evil gain the honour of stepping into the cold fire and becoming immortal. Those who are really really evil can become a part of the Inner Circle, and get branded with a phoenix, making them beyond immortal – even if their body is destroyed, they live on as a ball of white energy until they can get another body (this is Catty. It should be noted that her response to this honour was ‘cool, huh?’).

For the most part, the series is set in LA in the Hollywood area, but another important location is Nefandus. Nefandus is another realm, described as existing ~in the spaces between molecules~ and it’s here that the Atrox resides, along with Catty’s father Adamantis and various other evil entities. It’s basically everything that is creepy and gloomy and not the kind of place you want to go for a holiday – unless you have embraced the darkness within you or otherwise belong there for some reason, the whole place appears as masses of fog.

Personality:
Catty isn’t the kind of person who cares what other people think of her. Growing up, her adoptive mom told her that she was an alien princess, so Catty had a sort of armour against people who thought she was weird or a freak – she wasn’t of this world anyway, so who cared what people thought?

Having grown up essentially believing this idea that she was, if not an alien, at least something special, finding out that she was a goddess wasn’t really much of a surprise to Catty. She basically thought it was the coolest thing ever, and warmed to the idea right away. Catty’s the kind of person who takes the weird or unusual in her stride, and is of the ‘embrace what’s different about you’ school of thought.

She might not care what others think of her in general, but when it comes to her friends (especially Vanessa), Catty is more vulnerable. She loves few people, but fiercely, rather than collecting a bunch of friends she doesn’t care as much about. She’s not afraid to die to protect the people she cares about, and in general is a very self-sacrificing person. This is an aspect of her that grows throughout the series, culminating in her sacrificing herself to save the world, rather than just her friends.

Still, she’s the kind of girl who views the rules as more guidelines than words to live (or die) by. She doesn’t have any qualms about using her powers for her own gain (like getting a free lunch by time travelling away before she has to pay), and she’d rather ask forgiveness than permission, so to speak. Even as she starts maturing and becoming more accepting of her responsibilities, that doesn’t make her bound by the rules. If anything, it’s the opposite – she becomes determined to fulfil her responsibilities by any means necessary, to the degree of flying in the face of everything she’s supposed to be.

Catty goes through what you could call a metamorphosis in her characterisation. She accepts that there is darkness inside her, but decides to choose the light – but in choosing the light, she has to go further into the darkness than any daughter ever has before. In pretending to be evil, Catty does some truly horrific things (like letting her ex and three others be absorbed into a demon’s body) , and essentially pushes the boundaries of what it is to be a double agent. In order to defeat what she hates, she has to become it, and she’s so convincing that even her lifelong best friend is taken in by her evil act.

This act essentially breaks something in Catty. Her moral compass has skewed a lot more towards grey – in order to live with what she’s done, she has to be absolutely certain that the ends justify the means. This is probably why she was willing to sacrifice herself – and not only herself, but Vanessa if she got in the way – in order to defeat the Atrox. While she remains essentially good at heart, she’s more willing than ever to do things that wouldn’t be considered good. And that’s not just in the sense of ‘for the greater good’ – pretending to be evil has resulted in her being a little more selfish and self-involved. She expects to be listened to, and even obeyed, and she’s even more likely to use her powers for personal gain.

Catty is a character of immense personal strength and determination, shown in the fact that she did manage to retain her goodness in the face of the ultimate evil and succeed in defeating it. But she’s also deceitful, single-minded, and unlikely to change her position for anyone else’s sake. The good part of her is aware of these tendencies, and it adds overall to her desperation to be loved. Catty’s personality is kind of fractured; there’s a part of her that abhors what she’s done, and that makes her desperate for people to accept her and want to be with her/around her, even as she outwardly appears to be fine.

And, other than a few flashes, she does outwardly appear to be fine! Catty is outgoing, gregarious, and it’s honestly more of a narrative device that she doesn’t have friends in canon than as a result of her personality. She doesn’t care what people think, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care about people, and she’s always up for a fun or exciting time. She’s the kind of girl who’d be the life of the party, regardless of whether or not she’d been invited. As mentioned, though, there are a few weird flashes of her darker side, her more unpleasant nature that she’s not even aware are unusual any more. She’s been living in darkness so long, it’s hard to tell.

Catty would have mixed feelings about being on the turtle. She was kind of expecting a better after life, to be honest. But beyond that, she’s been living in a land of treachery for too long to not be suspicious. On the other hand, the more hopeful side of her would view it as a second chance, an opportunity to have more time with Vanessa and just be able to enjoy life again in a way that she wasn’t in the precious few hours between her death.

Appearance:
Catty’s a babe, basically. Long, wavy brown hair, brown eyes. She’s usually tan because LA, but she’s lost a lot of that colour lately because creepy shadow world. She’s on the shorter side of average, but she’s not tiny or anything. Her PB is Lucy Hale

Somewhere in the wood sector! She’d

In-Character Samples:
Third Person:
If Catty was honest, she’d expected a little less turtle in her afterlife.

Not that she had anything against turtles. She was sure they were perfectly nice animals, especially if they were kind enough to carry around entire cities of people on their back. Just, you know. She’d been hoping for a little more Chris.

She ignored most of the explanation the kedan give her, lifting it directly from their minds instead and filing it away for later perusal. People telling her things meant they had a chance to lie about it, even if their thoughts weren’t away they didn’t know the truth. If there was one thing Catty had learnt over the past few months, it was to be wary of who she trusted.

She waited until she was left alone to slip into the shadows, her body dissolving into darkness. Once upon a time the idea had disgusted her, but a certain wild exhilaration filled her now. There was a freedom here that even flying with Vanessa couldn’t compare with – because here, she was in control. She decided what she would do, where she would go, and if she fell, it would be her own fault.

It was more than just the shadows, she realised, flitting through the strange city. She’d been constrained for so long, pretending to be someone else, always having to be hyperaware and hide that hyperawareness. Even when she’d left the Atrox, she was too focussed on destroying it to be able to enjoy her freedom. She didn’t have that problem now, and her delighted laughter had kedan double-taking at the shadows all over Keeliai.

Network:
[Hey Foreigners there is a cutie brunette on your screen right now. She’s tapping her chin a little thoughtfully, eyeing the camera] Okay, so I get the whole other realm, hi-you’re-on-a-turtle-and-also-there-are-computers thing. Which, weird – seriously, who expects the afterlife to be so high tech? But I have something a little more important to ask about right now.

[She leans back and gestures at herself. She’s wearing a green dress that, while it looks good on her, isn’t exactly appropriate for every day wear] Does anyone have clothes I could borrow? Pants, especially pants. You have no idea how long it’s been since I even saw a pair of jeans.

Other than that, though, does anyone know if there’s a dance club around here or something? I had a look around myself, but maybe someone who’s been here longer can help. There’s gotta be some place teenagers can go to let loose, right? [She winks, and reaches forward to turn off the camera when something else appears to occur to her]

Oh yeah! I’m A – Catty, I’m Catty. [She holds her hand up in a Vulcan salute] Greetings to my fellow inter-dimensional travellers. Especially those of you with pants.
